My services
In-Person Therapy
Take time for yourself in a light filled room with beautiful river views. We explore together what you hope for and value most. Whether through talking, EMDR, sandtray, or art, we’ll create a plan for your needs.
Teletherapy
Telehealth or teletherapy is facilitated by video or phone. Convenient, it saves time, and transportation and/or childcare costs. You always have the option to request a video session instead of meeting in person. Maybe you want to talk on your lunch break or don’t feel 100% on that day. Moving to a video is often just right during our Montana winters!
Research shows that telecounseling is effective.
*EMDR is also an option on video calls.
Phone is also an option unless I will be billing insurance.( Insurance does not accept phone only, a video is required).
Confidentiality: Our communications will take place using a secure, encrypted, video platform in compliance with the Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Teens
Teenagers want to feel heard, understood, and appreciated for who they are, without judgment. And without a lot of questions! I find that sitting at the table together while drawing, painting, playing with magnets, or using the sand tray is helpful in inviting deep conversation. They talk when they are ready. When they do, they have a LOT to say! The exploration of who they are can begin.
My Experience with Teens
I provided intensive school-based therapy for kids and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances (SED) for Logan Health Hospital for 7 years. Some of the kids I worked with were growing up in homes with mental illness, abuse, addiction, and incarceration. How can you trust adults if you were thrown from one foster home after another?
Time with a safe adult can change the story teens believe about themselves.
If you are interested in telehealth for your child, let’s decide together if that modality would be a good option. Some teens benefit more than others from teletherapy.
Therapy for Adults
Adulthood brings new opportunities, and with those come new challenges. Pain is a part of the human condition at any age. Knowing when to get help is a sign of wisdom. Talking with a therapist is a bit like talking to a friend whom you know won’t tell and who stays focused on what is important to you. In person or on video. Phone is an option unless I am billing insurance. Insurance does not accept phone calls only.
Pregnancy & Postpartum
Are you afraid of giving birth?
Worried that you can’t be a good mom or dad because you’re already overwhelmed?
Do you feel depressed, like you’re a horrible mom, because instead of feeling joy as you hold that baby, you just want to cry?
Are you afraid of your invasive thoughts?
These are just a few examples of the many reasons to seek support. During years of training and work in midwifery care , I have helped hundreds of pregnant women learn to trust their bodies, see how strong they really are, and face the uncertainty. Support for moms and dads after the baby’s birth is vital for recovery and a return to the “new normal”.
As a Mom, I have been there too…
EMDR
Available in person or via telehealth.
There are different ways to help break through a difficult memory and change automatic reactions. Creating distance from memories removes some of their power. EMDR is an effective and quick way to achieve this. It is done with bilateral stimulation. You get to try and choose: eye movement with a light or moving hand, handheld vibrating tappers, and/or sound in headphones. It requires very little talking. I often don’t know any of the details clients are working through.
EMDR can help you with:
Depression
Anxiety
PTSD
Processing trauma
Preparing for an event
Increasing self-confidence
Changing how you react
Create distance from a memory
Transform core beliefs

Sandtray
Sand tray are not only for kids!
If you just don’t have the words to describe how you feel, if you’re tired, on edge, or sick of thinking in circles, a sand tray can feel like an oasis. Back to your senses with smooth sand…and time to sit back with a new picture of your situation. With few words, you might perhaps access the kid inside. A choice of shells, rocks, miniatures, and symbols help create worlds and get new ideas. To learn more about sandtray Therapy:

Mindfulness
Do you ever feel like you’re chasing your tail as you ruminate on a problem? Or worse, you’ve stopped breathing! Ruminating rarely resolves the problem and it often increases tension. In fact one of the best ways to calm the nervous system and bring in new ideas is to engage in something that helps you stay present. Have you ever suddenly remembered a word or a name just after you stopped thinking about it?
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.” ― Jon Kabat-Zinn .
Mindfulness is awareness. And from awareness we get to move toward choice! And finally gain some control over some things we can indeed change.
With practice, you may find that your mood, sleep, concentration, relationships, and work improve.
In our sessions, many clients say they like our short pauses, when we turn our attention to the moment. The non-judgment piece is vital to the approach. We get to become observers.
I respect clients’ limits and preferences in general, but as a trauma-informed practitioner, I know the importance of gradual work when it comes to body awareness and breathing. Grounding is often what just is needed. You decide whether to try something or pass. It is about experimentation and adding to your skills. If you’re interested…
Many clients enjoy visualizations.
With guided imagery (visualization), you can:
Rehearse new ways to react
Get closer to goals
Regulate your emotions
Practice talking to someone
Bring in hope
Calm your nervous system
Art
To be transparent, I don’t claim to be an “art therapist” with formal education in that field. I, on the other hand, am a lifelong art student, a believer in the power of art to stop the clock and transport us to places we wouldn’t otherwise visit. I find it to be a great way to segue into conversations with clients, especially teens. My enthusiasm is contagious. I keep a nice supply and welcome exploration or mindful coloring as an example.
Art can help you:
Relax
Focus on the present
See from a new perspective
Self-Express
Connect with emotions
Teach self-control while learning to let go!

More about EMDR.
EMDR stands for Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. Yes, a mouthful for an approach requiring very little talking!
I became determined to become an EMDR therapist when I saw that EMDR brought changes that talk alone did not. Something happens!
There are different ways to help break through traumatic memories. Talk can be helpful as are other activities like sandtray, art, or writing. As the memory is seen from different perspectives, understanding grows and emotions become more manageable. The idea is to relate to a memory over time in new ways which removes some of its power. EMDR is different in that it requires little talking. I often don’t know any of the details clients are working through.
